After he returned home from fighting in World War I, he founded a shoe factory with his younger brother Adolph in 1924. They named their new business (translated to English) Dassler Brothers Shoe Factory and they became the only business at that time specializing in sport's shoes. The brothers launched their business from a small laundry that their mother owned and because of unreliable electric service, they sometimes had to pedal a stationary bike to run their equipment! In 1927, they moved into a separate building. The pair drove to the 1936 Summer Olympics with a suitcase full of running spikes and were able to get USA sprinter Jesse Owens to wear them, who then went on to win 4 Gold Medals. After this, the business began to climb steadily and at the start of World War II, they were selling 200,000 pairs a year! The brothers had a growing problem between them and ultimately, in 1948, they split up the business. Rudolph moved across the Aurach River and began his own shoe business. Adolph's nickname was "Adi" so he used his nickname and the first three letters of his last name "Das" from Dassler. He then names his new shoe business Adidas! Rudolph created a new business that used the "Ru" from Rudolph and the "Da" from Dassler and it launched as Ruda. A few months later, the name was changed again to Puma! The two companies, Puma and Adidas became bitter rivals and competed so heavily that the town of Herzogenaurach was divided on the issue of sneakers. This lead to the town getting the nickname "The town of bent necks" as everyone wanted to see which brand sneakers a new person to town was wearing! Puma and Adidas continue to be strong competitors in the sneaker wars today. How to Find a Specific Nike Shoe (or Sneaker)By W E Van Schaick - Author

Remove dirt from the outsole, midsole, and uppers using a dry, soft-bristled shoe brush. No shoe brush? No problem—an older toothbrush will work just fine. Make a mild cleaning solution. Mix warm water with a small amount of laundry detergent. Wash laces. Remove the laces and apply a small amount of the mild cleaning solution. Massage the laces, rinse, then dry with a soft cloth. Wash soles. Apply the mild solution to a soft-bristled brush and brush the outsole and midsole. Dry with a soft cloth. Wash and blot. Use the mild solution and a soft-bristled brush or a soft cloth to clean the uppers. Then use a dry microfiber towel or soft cloth to blot and lift as much soapy moisture and dirt as possible. Repeat if necessary. Air dry. Air dry at room temperature. We don’t recommend putting your shoes in a washing machine or dryer or using harsh cleaning products (like bleach). And for best results, clean your sneakers as soon as they get dirty. Then lace up and get back out there." ***************************************************************************** Editor's Note: The "outsole" or "sole" is the bottom of your sneaker. The "midsoles" are the side portion of the sneaker, adjacent to the outsole. The "uppers" would be the remaining surface area, separate of the laces.
